History IA (Historical Investigation) Example - Grade 7

Image
The History IA was one of the hardest assignments I did during my time in the IB, and not without good reason! L uckily, it all boils down to 3 main sections which require relatively simple things from you. You need to analyse your sources (you can use OPVL , a highly recommended method), try to create a balanced discussion about your research question, and finally introduce some of your own thoughts on the process by reflecting . Take a look below at my own History IA for an idea of how you can structure it and what kind of content you could include in your own investigation! PS. I have taken screenshots of the pages of my IA so you can still see how I did the citations alongside the text, so it might look a bit grainy and small. Don't be afraid to just zoom in to the text if need be!  Basic information about my IA Research Question : To what extent did policies of state-led industrialisation benefit Turkey between 1929 and 1933? Score: 20/25 (within the markband of 7) Word coun

Step-by-step: How to Make a TOK Presentation

Image
The TOK Presentation can be confusing and full of so many little parts that you might not even be sure where to start. Or maybe you think the TOK Presentation is a piece of cake and just wanna check out what other people do for their own so you can make yours as good as possible.  I have been asked by different students about different parts of the TOK Presentation and what steps they should take. Because of this, I've compiled a little list of steps I took in my own TOK Presentation from beginning to end with an example ( highlighted in yellow ) so you can get an idea for how you could phrase things.  Keep in mind that this definitely doesn't work for everyone, but could give you peace of mind when trying to figure out how to do your own :) In total, this guide has 7 steps: Identify your preferred AOKs ( Areas of Knowledge) /WOKs (Ways of Knowing) Come up with a list of possible RLSs (Real Life Situations) Come up with central KQ (Knowledge Question) Connect the

Unpacking The TOK Outline

Image
Ugh, the dreaded TOK Presentation.  To be honest, the TOK Presentation is definitely one of the things I dreaded most in the IB, since it really is a combination of your understanding of TOK and your presenting skills. Well, fear not, I've broken down the TOK Outline (the structure for your TOK Presentation), so you can better approach the structure of your TOK Presentation and nail the criteria needed for top marks. Let's get started! What exactly is the TOK Outline? The Presentation Form, known also as the TOK Outline, is a form you need to fill alongside your presentation. Some consider this form to be equally as important as the presentation itself, since this is actually the document used by the IB to moderate your grades. If you've got a bad TOK outline but you held an awesome presentation, your grades will be dragged down pretty considerably. The TOK Outline is essentially stripping down all the main points of your presentation (arguments, examples

The Ultimate ESS IA FAQ

Image
Recently, I wrote a post about how to do the ESS IA step-by-step . There are so many questions that all students will raise from the beginning to the end of the process, and here I've compiled some of the main ones. To get a feel for ideas on what to do your ESS IA on, what you should avoid or include, and if your data has been presented in the right way, you've come to the right place! Frequently Asked Questions about the ESS IA Should I do a questionnaire or experiment? As an ESS student, the difficulty of your ESS IA is nearly entirely determined by the essential question: Questionnaire or Experiment? I probably spent the most time on my ESS IA in comparison to my friends, and that's not necessarily a good thing. I was pretty much forced into a position where I had to do a questionnaire (as opposed to an experiment) due to me having only Humanities based knowledge and, because of this, no knowledge of how to even stage an experiment if I wanted to. The

How To Get 7 In Your ESS IA: Step-By-Step

Image
The IA in ESS is considered by most students to be an assignment that can easily be done in a short amount of time. However, almost all students I've come across that actually completed it had major issues with understanding what exactly was required from them, finding out last minute their idea wasn't deemed fit for the subject or underestimating the role of your personal knowledge in being able to conduct the IA. Most humanities oriented students can't do experiments, and most science students can't do questionnaires. Keeping in mind that the IA is marked like you're conducting a experiment with a twist of humanities, you're bound to get confused as to how to approach your IA in the way the IB wants you to.  In this step-by-step guide, I will be leading you through all the minimum requirements that will help you get a 7 in your ESS IA. This will guide you through the key elements of your IA, including the mandatory sections and examples of how you could sp
